Public to inspect waiting lists next month

21 Sep 2015

The public will have the opportunity to inspect the waiting lists at Boteti sub land board with effect from next month. The move is aimed at reducing the perception that there were corruption practices done through manipulating the waiting lists.

Boteti Sub Land Board secretary, Mr Kealeboga Kemoreile said in an interview that the sub land board would also meet monthly as opposed to sitting every three months to expedite resolutions of pending issues, as well as attend to other issues such as follow up to development covenants, illegal occupation of land, failure to demarcate allocated plots to mention, but a few.

He said several committees, which had been delegated powers from the board were instructed to meet regularly in order to improve service delivery.

“For example, the land administration committee now meets fortnightly to deal with all transfers, inheritances and conversion of plots from customary to common law and leasing,” he said.

He said systematic registration of plots in Boteti, is done through the Land Administration, Procedures, Capacity and Systems (LAPCAS) project and is in process.

Currently, he said the fully fledged implementation is at Serowe, Mahalapye and Palapye sub land boards.   “In all other sub land boards, including Letlhakane, we are working of proper filling process whereby each plot has its own file with all information, like application form, certificate, and transfer information.

The mapping, he said would be done in the near future.  In addition, he said all layouts were surveyed prior to allocation and deposited in stardust.

He explained that Letlhakane was declared a planning area.

Mr Kemoreile stated that having been declared a planning area, means that all land transactions within the planning area would now be governed by the provisions of the Town and Country Planning Act, which shall be administered by Boteti Sub District council and not the Boteti Sub District Land Board.

“The land board shall only be responsible for acquisition of land necessary for village expansion, preparation of base maps in acquired areas, the demarcation of plots, surveying and allocation of approved layouts from the Department of surveys and mapping,” he said.

He said the Central District Council physical planning committee subsequent to the declaration, is responsible for the preparation and approval of detailed layouts through the physical planning department based on the base maps prepared by the sub land board.  Ends
