16 Sep 2015

The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) medical missionary, Mr Tshepang Rampart, says their church has pledged to assist government in its quest to reduce non communicable diseases such as asthma, heart attacks, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Speaking on the sidelines of a health expo organised by the church in Letlhakeng recently, Mr Rampart said they were spreading the word of good health and fitness alongside the word of God, a deed referred to as medical missionary in their profession.

Mr Rampart said medical missionary required one to study a course in medical missionary before embarking on the work. He stressed the importance of involving God in everything that people did.

“We as a church were  trying to join government in the fight against non-commutable diseases.

We are however taking a rather different route because we want to disseminate this information about health issues during our church services, this is because we have realised that churches have a lot of influence and membership as such we want to utilise this to reach out to people,” he said.

He further said when hosting health expos, they offered a lot of health related services such as checking blood pressure, body mass index, weight as well as offering counselling to members of the public using what they term Nutrition Exercise Water Sunshine Temperance Air Rest and Trust (NEWESTART) in God.

Mr Rampart further said they teach their members and communities about health and fitness in the form of video clips and power point presentations.

He said the public will better understand the importance of living healthy life styles if they asked the wisdom from God. Ends
