Church reaches out to needy

16 Sep 2015

Promises of God Church donated food hampers and blankets to People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in Lobatse recently.

When handing over the donation on behalf of the church, Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry who is also the Member of Parliament for Lobatse Advocate Sadique Kebonang thanked the church for the good work they were doing, adding that God will bless them so that they do more of this good work in future.

He said although there were many government programmes in place, they do not favor PLWDs all the time as some of these people have severe disabilities and could not do anything for themselves.

He said as such, it is up to the community, friends and neighbours to help them. Advocate Kebonang also thanked Lobatse Town Council for identifying the beneficiaries, adding that this shows the spirit of compassion.

Earlier on his welcome remarks, Woodhall Court president Kgosi Pius Letsholo thanked the church for the spirit of giving, adding that it shows progress in achieving the nation’s 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation. He said it is a good thing to help one of their own get on their feet when they are down, or even carry them on one’s back.

Kgosi Letsholo said some of the people are in need not because they like being in need, but because they have severe disabilities which does not allow them to work for themselves, adding that however, it is all God’s plan and God has a plan to bless them as well.

He said the donation will help PLWD’s to get their dignity back as well as bring happiness to their lives. Pastor for Promises of God Church Rev. Motlhatlhedi Mooke said the mandate of his church is to look after people in need because they are God’s children, adding that as such, the church bought the food hampers and blankets for the beneficiaries who were identified by the Social and Community Department.

He added that giving to these people is a way of showing them love and assuring them that God has not forsaken them.  ENDS
