Reception class does well in Sowa

Mayor for Sowa Town has informed a full council meeting that the reception class which started early this year at Sowa Primary school was doing well. Cllr George Maphane said last week, the class with an enrolment of 58 learners will graduate in November 6 this year.
The initiative he highlighted is aimed at grooming the pupils for standard one.
“This is one of the strategies of improving academic results which have been poor nationwide,” he said.
He thus urged councillors to rally behind the initiative and lend their support to the teachers to bring out the best out of learners. Further, Councillor Maphane informed councillors that Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) has adopted Nxakato junior Secondary school in Sowa; a development he said is more than welcome.
Meanwhile the mayor decried problems of cattle and elephants roaming the town.
He said however that in spite of measures put in place to drive out trouble animals, elephants have proven difficult and dangerous to deal with.
Commenting, Councillor Botho Ntirang suggested that the council needed to revise stray animals’ penalty. He said this would force farmers to take care of their livestock to avoid taxing charges that will be put in place by the council.
“Having cattle roaming the streets is one of the issues which can impact negatively on the town in its effort to attract investors and it is therefore imperative to ensure action is taken against perpetrators,” Councilor Ntirang said.
On the issue of elephants, Councillor Ntirang said relevant authorities needed to be engaged as a matter of urgency lest people’s lives are in danger. Ends
