Orange reserves P100 000 for women entreprenuers

14 Sep 2015

The Orange Foundation has launched the 5th Women in Business Corporate Gift Challenge, which targets all women entrepreneurs and SMMEs. The competition also gives women the opportunity to submit proposals for design and production of corporate gifts, which Orange then buys in bulk for its stakeholders.

A press release from Orange Foundation states that they have specifically reserved a budget of P100 000 to buy gifts from the competition winner.

The release says the women empowerment initiative aims at boosting women SMMEs, given challenges that they face as small businesses operating in the country.

“This year’s competition has been running since July and will be coming to an end on September 25. We are in search for gifts that are outstanding, suit any corporate environment as well as symbolise Orange values and corporate image. The proposed gifts may be edible, decorative or augment work environment, so women are encouraged to submit their proposals and stand a chance of being this year’s winner,” Ms Boga Chilinde-Masebu, Orange PR and Foundation manager, says in the release.

“The winner gets additional benefits. Her company gets to enjoy free opportunities to exhibit her products at different platforms facilitated by Orange Foundation. So this is a great opportunity for women who are trying to grow their businesses and penetrate the market.”

Since the beginning of the initiative in 2012, over 85 candidates from all over Botswana have participated.

These are women involved in different areas such as arts and crafts, fashion design, textiles, bakery, body and beauty, food and beverages, upholstery and linen making. This year, Ms Chilinde-Masebu says, more women are showing interest in the competition, judging from the big number of enquiries received. Ends
