Kgosi hails ministers call-in programme

13 Sep 2015

Kgosi Oreagetse Machilidza has hailed President Ian Khama Seretse Khama for introducing the Cabinet Ministers Call-in Programme. He said recently in an interview that the initiative has brought ministers closer to the people.

He observed that ministers are only a call away nowadays, which enables them to be able to respond to people’s concerns timeously. The leader also expressed gratitude for the vehicle that has been allocated to his kgotla. Kgosi Machilidza was however unhappy with the rising crime rate in the village.

He said the perpetrators are usually young people who resort to crime due to lack of employment opportunities. He said that the thugs even steal office chairs. He said the crime situation does not augur well for investment and tourism.

Kgosi Machilidza called on parents to advise their children to stay away from alcohol and drugs as they can lead to poor mental health. He also said Mopipi, as the third largest village in Boteti sub district, has to have at least three chiefs.

He said that tribal administration takes a knock in the sub district whenever he attends House of Chiefs sessions.

For his part, the headman of Mokabe ward Kgosi Ketso Isang expressed displeasure at people who continue to sell traditional brew illegally in their homesteads. He said such drinking spots harbour criminal elements. He complained that while the police cluster tries by all means to curb crime, public support has been inadequate. Ends
