Tshekiso urges married couples to register

10 Sep 2015

Married couples have been advised to get proper documentations for their marriages. The advice came from the assistant deputy district commissioner for Tutume Sub-district, Mr Kabelo Tshekiso during a “Re a nyalana” mass wedding for 40 couples from Nswazwi and Makuta in Nswazwi recently.

He said they have realised that many married couples do not register their union whether in or outside community of property with the Register of Deeds as required. Mr Tshekiso said it was only upon the death of one spouse that the remaining spouse gets the shock of their life when they realise that there was no documentation to justify the decision they made at the time they got married.

He thus implored married couples to ensure that every document was in order. Mr Tshekiso also informed the couples that  a confirmation letter from the Register of Deeds should reach them within a period of six months after getting married.

Meanwhile, former Nkange MP, Mr Ambrose Masalila said developments and unity in the country start at the family level, noting that with proper family set-ups, there was often peace and tranquility.

He commended the “Re a nyalana” programme for bringing out the best in people, adding that many have started to appreciate and see the importance of living together as formally married couples.

Mr Masalila further noted that many people preferred to live together as couples until one passes on, and relatives come on board to claim everything, living the remaining spouse without anything.

Furthermore, Mr Masalila said the greediness of some relatives often leads to orphans who ended up being enrolled under the government food basket. He said for every decision people take, they should introspect on the outcomes and consequences. ENDS
