Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri has acknowledged that a patient who had unsuccessful surgery at Sekgoma Memorial Hospital in Serowe died without compensation.
In response to a Parliamentary question Friday, Mr Matlhabaphiri noted ithat the cause of death was unrelated to the surgical operation.
“The assessment of amounts to be paid to patients is being handled by the Attorney General’s Chambers and we hope it will be finalised soon. Ex-gratia payments will be paid to individual patients and not to surviving family members,” he said.
Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked whether it was true that some of the patients who had unsuccessful operations died without compensation and whether government would consider compensating their living family members. ENDS
