Mogapinyana VDC donates house

06 Sep 2015

The Member of Parliament for Mmadinare, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila has handed over a house built by the Mogapinyana Village Development Committee (VDC) to Ms Modibedi Andrea. The house, that cost over P10 000, was built through contributions from VDC members and the community.

Handing over the house recently, Mr Mzwinila commended the VDC and the community for heeding the President’s call to provide shelter to underprivileged members of society.

He said the project marks the beginning of other future projects which would serve a similar purpose in Mogapinyana. He commended the community for taking it upon themselves to make the project a success without requesting for funds from private companies.

He said it was the responsibility of the community to take care of its people instead of relying on the government.

The government, he said, could not afford to take care of everything alone, adding that it was important for the community to help. The former VDC chairperson, Ms Florah Shimako thanked the community for their support. She said some members of the community contributed money while some contributed building material as well as providing labour.

She noted that VDC members do not earn salaries, but that they managed to contribute money from their sitting allowances.

She added that helping underprivileged members of society does not require huge sums of money. For her part, Ms Andrea thanked residents for the house, and also encouraged them to continue helping other underprivileged people.

Mr Mzwinila also officially opened new offices for the VDC and the Social and Community Development officer.  Ends
