Government addresses water shortage
06 Sep 2015
Government is working round the clock to address water shortage. President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, who spent Friday (September 4) evening with Lesenepole elders in the Lerala/Maunatlala constituency, said government was doing everything possible to normalise the situation.
Earlier in the day, President Khama commissioned Masama Wells near Mochudi; a development, which he said would help address shortage of water especially in the southern parts of the country.
The area MP and also Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele, commended President Khama for interacting with people.
He thanked President Khama for spending the evening with the elders where they were provided with some nourishment and also given solar power lamps and blankets. President Khama also presented Bibles to church leaders, soccer kit and a ball to the village team and some gifts to the children.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Phoophoo Mapena of Maunatlala said President Khama was a people’s person as he made time to visit and interact with Batswana all over the country.
By so doing, he said President Khama got to know how Batswana were living. He said he was happy that President Khama visited Lesenopole to spend time with the village elders. He said President Khama has uplifted the lives of many Batswana through empowerment programmes.
Therefore, he urged Batswana to make use of programmes introduced by government to uplift their lives such as ISPAAD to produce food for the country and empower themselves.
He also said young people should take heed to utilise youth development programmes, such as the Youth Development Fund to engage in farming and other projects to gain income and create employment for others. However, he expressed concern about the high rate of livestock theft in the area.
A number of cases of stolen goats given to some beneficiaries of the programme had been registered, and that he said sets government back on her efforts to empower people so that they could move above abject poverty.
Kgosi Mapena further stated that government also provided pension for the elderly and that was highly commended. He also pointed out that there was need for potholes to be patched along the road leading to Martins Drift or for the road to be re-tarred. Kgosi Mapena also requested that the Lesenepole-Maunatlala road be upgraded so that patients from Lesenepole would be transported easily to Maunatlala. Ends
