Nxaraga residents welcome projects
06 Sep 2015
Residents of Nxaraga in the Maun West constituency have welcomed development projects that are being implemented in their village.
The projects include among others, electrification of the village, construction of a health post, water system toilet at the kgotla and the renovation of the shelter.
In an interview, the Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Geoffrey Manja said they are thankful for the projects undertaken as they would transform the image of the village. He said some of the projects such as the renovation of the shelter and construction of the water system toilet are complete while the construction of the health post is ongoing.
He, however admitted that water crisis in the village hinders the smooth progression of projects as at times the builders had to stop because of shortage of water. Mr Manja noted that the village has been experiencing water shortage since it was gazetted in 2010 and currently Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) bowsers are supplying them with water.
He explained that they were promised a water project which was scheduled to start in June this year but was suspended because of financial constraints. But, he also acknowledged efforts made by WUC to address water shortage noting that recently they bought another water tank (10 000 litres) to supplement the one that supplied the residents for 48 hours.
For his part, Kgosi Kgosigaenyatswe Gaolatlhe of Nxaraga said his village was lagging behind in terms of developments despite the fact that it is a gazetted village. He however hailed the government for making efforts to bring services closer to the community noting that they are expecting more developments to come.
Kgosi Gaolatlhe explained that the government has promised to construct a fully fledged primary school for them in the year 2017/18 but requested the relevant authorities to re-visit the issue and see if it was possible to bring the construction of the school to the next financial year looking at the challenges faced by the pupils in the village.
