HIV/AIDS coordinator in the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), Ms Elizabeth Malope, has encouraged employees to lead healthy lifestyles.
Speaking in an interview at a recent wellness campaign for departments in the ministry, she said the campaign focused on financial issues as well as to inculcate a culture of healthy lifestyles. Ms Malope said a healthy individual produced healthy results, therefore it was vital to keep fit.
Various tests were done including blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) and HIV/AIDS and some people were referred to health facilities for further medical assistance.
The day started with aerobics led by the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and ended with games as a way of enhancing fitness.
The coordinator said the campaign targeted four districts per year countrywide, noting that the MTC departments; CTO, Department of Road Transport and Safety(DRTS), Botswana Post, Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana as well as Botswana Telecommunications (BTC) usually took part.
Ms Malope said their campaigns were marred by poor attendance, but however noted that there were wellness policies in government offices.
However, she advised civil servants and people at large to live a healthy lifestyle by taking proper and balanced diets, exercising regularly, financial management as well as proper relationships to avoid stress. Ends
