Good health basic human right

01 Sep 2015

Occupational health medical practitioner for Debswana Dr Kegomoditswe Mmereki says good health is a basic human right that comes with responsibility. Dr Mmereki was speaking during the Community Open Day organised by the Ministry of Health) in Letlhakane under the theme, My health, my responsibility.

She commended the health ministry for hosting the Community Open Day saying such an event creates a platform for information and learning.

“We are all responsible for our health so, after today’s teachings let us all continue to make responsible choices. Government and organisations alone cannot be responsible for our health,” she said.

For his part, District Health Management Team (DHMT) head in Letlhakane Dr Tegegne Solomon told the attendants that enough exercise and eating the right food at the right time is the key to a healthy body. He said people should eat more fruits and vegetables because they prevent bodies from sicknesses and that prevention is better than cure.

Dr Solomon told the attendants to have trust in divine power, and that having a joyful relationship with other people is a key to a healthy mind.

He said being in good health requires one to take care of their spiritual, psychological and physical being.

“Let us learn to forgive and forget the wrongs that other people have done because not forgiving someone is the same as giving that person a free accommodation in your heart,” Said Dr Solomon.

Attendants were reminded of the second round of the HPV vaccine that will be administered from the 14th to the 18th of September on girls aged nine to thirteen in schools.

Debswana wellness office, Eye care clinic, dental clinic, Tebelopele Voluntary Care and Testing Centre, blood donation, safe male circumcision, Tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infections personnel were present to give attendants free information, testing and counselling sessions. Ends
