Sesigo sa Metsi women out to prove worth

01 Sep 2015

A group of women in Sefhare who have come together to form Sego Sa Metsi Burial Society have been urged to prove wrong a perception that women never succeed in any project that they undertake as a group.

Speaking at the launch of the burial society recently in Sefhare, the Minister of Health, Ms Dorcas Makgato said members of Sego Sa Metsi Burial Society have set the record straight as they have so far been able to bury one member in Sefhare and seven beneficiaries outside Sefhare.

She said it goes without saying that when people work together for a common goal, it does not matter how big or difficult the project was, the desired result would always be achieved.

She said projects such as Sego Sa Metsi Burial Society were encouraging as they were in line with the government strategy of forming cooperatives and relying on each other and working together to achieve maximum benefits.

She noted that it was not always easy to work as a team as people differ in their approach to life and how they do things. She added that a lot of dedication, determination and the spirit of togetherness were the only ingredients needed for the survival of the group.

The society has 65 members and each member contributes P30 a month.

They raise funds through tea sessions every month and other fundraising activities. One member has already benefitted money to the tune of over P27 000.

Ms Makgato, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sefhare/Ramokgonami, applauded the burial society members for demonstrating commitment and hard work in the launch of the  burial society in a short space of time.

She said she was humbled and felt proud that the society was the brain-child of women, and that it was the women who have worked hard in ensuring that the society becomes what it was intended to be at its inception.

She encouraged members of the society to continue working hard as a team to reach intended goals, adding that teamwork was the most important ingredient for success.  Ends
