Makgetho hopes to grow business

01 Sep 2015

Mr Carthbert Makgetho who hails from Tsamaya owns a company called Kgetho’s Welding and Fabrication which he started in 2013.

He started the business after a company that he worked for as a boilermaker collapsed in 2011. After being jobless for a while, Mr Makgetho said he sought other means of making a living by searching for menial jobs, but he finally registered his company in 2012.

He said after registering his company, he was assisted with P15 000 by the government through the poverty eradication programme to buy materials. He manufactures products like metal gates, water tanks and donkey carts and he sometimes helps fixes people who are in need of his expertise.

He mentioned that he has applied for council tenders and  is still waiting for their response. He said that even though he runs the business alone, he sometimes hire people and students who want attachment.

Mr Makgetho said the work his company is doing is tough and dangerous as they work with gas cylinders and grinders therefore it needs a person who is skillful and has a bit of knowledge about boiler making and he always encourages people he hires to wear safety clothes to avoid unnecessary accidents.

He said even though the company is running smoothly he still has problems with customers who fail to pay him after completing their work, adding that such things end up killing their businesses.

He said as the materials he uses are scarce in Jwaneng, he travels to Kanye to buy them which is costly. He said his business is not in a good location as it is in a residential area and sometimes he experiences power cuts.

“I want to move my business to an industrial site where I will receive less power cuts and also have better market because people will be able to locate my company easily,” he said.

He said since his company started operating he is able to provide for his family, adding that he wants to see his company grow to be one of the successful businesses in the country. He further said that he  is planning to recruit  young people who are interested in working with him.

He encouraged people to be passionate about their work in order to have good results at the end. Ends
