PSP adopts Malaka primary

The Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Cater Morupisi and his family have adopted Malaka Primary School in the Lerala/Maunatlala constituency. Mr Morupisi attended Malaka Primary School up to Standard Seven.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Morupisi noted that the school has produced a number of leaders who continue to contribute to Botswana’s socio-economic growth in many different sectors. He said he was passionate about community development, and that he wanted to play a role in building a lasting legacy for Botswana’s future leaders.
He added that the support he got from his wife could never be overemphasised, as she was also equally selfless when it comes to changing of lives with the aspiration to see Malaka children and community developed.
He noted that the Adopt-A-School initiative was aimed at creating a conducive learning environment for children and helping shape their future.
“I commit to help the school management and PTA mobilise resources that will enhance learning. This will include various issues such as facilities, learning material and capacity building.”
He said the help would be extended to other schools in the MOLEMA cluster area to ensure that all the schools benefit.
Mr Morupisi also pledged P5 000 towards the prize for the best performing pupils at Malaka. He added that every pupil who attains grade A would be given P300 and for grade B it would be P100.
He added that he hoped the incentives would compel children to study hard and improve their academic results. Mr Morupisi is also a patron of Moroka and Xhumo primary schools. He thanked Huawei company and staff who donated 33 Huawei-pads, 300 blankets worth P90 000 and P88 000 in cash.
The deputy permanent secretary, Ms Kesego Okie thanked the company for their donation and participation in the event. She donated 10 pairs of shoes and socks to needy pupils at Lecheng Primary School.
Others who contributed was the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi and Bayport who are also engaged in building a destitute house in Malaka.
Mr Morupisi urged teachers to show commitment, adding that as the patron of the school he would be monitoring them to ensure that results were of a high standard. He said seeking an informed and educated nation needs universal, continuing and quality education for all Batswana.
For his part, the acting Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, Mr Li Nan said the socio-economic and bilateral relationships between the two countries had strengthened.
He noted that his country has been involved in the development of education infrastruture such as building and donating school facilities, equipment and even sponsoring students to further their education.
He added that recently about 48 Batswana students were sent to China for various studies.
He said they were also engaged in training various government employees in administration, media, sports and others. He said there were some schools which they were currently constructing such as Mophane and others.
He said they were also helping in development of technology as they have donated computers to varies schools. Huawei Technologies managing director, Mr Gao Wen Li told Malaka pupils that they were the future. Ends
