Mother Bear Project donates

31 Aug 2015

In pursuit of bringing comfort to children who may have never had a toy of their own, Mother Bear Project donated teddy bears to Standard One and Two classes at Makopong Primary School.

Speaking at the ceremony, a peace corp member from The United States of America, who is also a volunteer at the school, Ms Lilly Scribnner said Mother Bear Project is a non-profit organisation from The US that has sent over 109 000 bears since 2003 to children in 26 African countries.

“The bears are sent to countries affected by HIV/AIDS and Mother Bear Project believes that the bears provide comfort to children, and a little friend to play with,” said Ms Scribnner.

She said every bear would wear a tag that reads; With Love, Mother Bear and the name of the person who made the bear. Ms Scribnner went on to say each bear takes about eight to 10 hours to complete, therefore they are definitely a labour of love. For his part, the school head, Mr France Brooks thanked Mother Bear Project for bringing endless smiles to the children’s faces.

He said the spirit of giving should not be underestimated as it changes lives for the better. Mr Brooks went on to applaud government’s reception class initiative, saying it has produced best results by far.

“Since the introduction of reception classes, we have recorded less number of dropouts from school, little ones get used to the learning environment,” said Mr Brooks. Ends
