Kgatleng agricultural district officers together with their colleagues from Gaborone held their community service day on Friday August 28 by refurbishing Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre playground for the children.
The acting district agriculture coordinator Ms Tiyedze Mariri said when it was their turn to undertake the community service day, as per the agreement by the ministry, they identified Motswedi centre and saw the need to extend a helping hand.
She said they found out that the net shading of the children’s playground was worn out and even where the children play needed to be cleaned and redecorated.
Ms Mariri added that they then took the decision to go there more so that the centre takes care of special education children who need love and care.
She further said they did not only redecorate the playground, but had ample time with the children, helping them eat, making up their beds and also washing their clothes.
The agriculture coordinator said the greatest gift one can give to another person was to love them and show they care. “I applaud agriculture officers who participated in this community service day and taking their time and energy to help the centre.” Ms Mariri said they also donated toiletry and clothes to the centre to help those who are in need.
She added that the officers also took it upon themselves to contribute towards the donation. Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre coordinator Ms Salang Rapoo expressed her gratitude towards the good gesture shown by the Ministry of Agriculture.
She said they have come to their rescue as they did not know how they will refurbish since they do not have the money to do so. Ms Rapoo further said the playground was once refurbished by First National Bank Botswana but it later got dilapited and the agriculture officers have come to their rescue.
Nevertheless, she said the centre was beset by challenges that mire their services among them shortage of accommodation which makes them to receive low intake even though there are many parents who wish their children could enroll there.
However, Ms Rapoo said the donation of toiletry and clothes will help many of the children as most of them come from disadvantaged families. Giving a vote of thanks, the area councillor Mr David Motlhatlhedi said they have been blessed by agriculture staff because what they have done is commendable indeed.
He said God will bless them for assisting the centre especially that they have shown love and support to the special children. Councillor Motlhatlhedi further said a lot has to be done to help upgrade the centre but remain hopeful that help will keep coming to rescue the centre. ENDS
