Turnkey project delivers in Selebi Phikwe

30 Aug 2015

The mayor of Selebi Phikwe, Mr Amogelang Mojuta says the Turnkey project is being implemented accordingly in the mining town although hiccups have been experienced.

He said this when welcoming councillors, officials and the town leadership to the third ordinary council session. Mayor Mojuta said Botswana Housing Cooperation (BHC) was constructing 29 housing units in Selebi Phikwe.

He said the project to construct the units was awarded to nine local contractors. Furthermore, he stated that the previous contractors were unable to complete the works due to various reasons, one being low rates.

“This setback has since been addressed and there is great improvement in the delivery of houses,” he said. Mr Mojuta said 14 houses have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries, and that the remaining 15 were at different construction stages.

He said so far BHC has received 20 names of beneficiaries for 2015/2016 from the Department of Housing. Regarding Primary School Backlog Eradication Projects, Mr Mojuta said the implementation of the 2015/2016 Primary School Backlog projects was underway.

He said on August 6, the council signed a contract with Jeewan Building Construction for the construction of 13 teachers houses to the tune of P10.8 million. He said construction started on August 20.

“The tender for the construction of two blocks of toilets for Segomotso Primary School has been awarded to DotPhil for P1.25 million and the construction is expected to commence early September,” he said. ENDS
