Monarch misses kgotla activities

27 Aug 2015

Some residents of Monarch location in Francistown have decried lack of Kgotla structure where they can attend various important meetings.

This comes after their kgotla was mysteriously gutted by fire in April this year. In an interview recently, some residents of the location aired their grievances on this issue, saying it is not proper for their location  not to have a Kgotla.

A 23 year old, Ms Kenyaditswe Mashona who lives near the Kgotla said the place was where all issues concerning development of Monarch location were discussed before it burnt down.

She said their kgotla used to be a lively and vibrant place; hosting kgotla meetings by Francistown West MP, Mr Ignatius Moswaane; different cabinet ministers, government departments and other local organisations such as Youth Health Organization (YOHO). Another resident, 43year old, Ms Tshenolo Chaikwa shared Kenyaditswe’s sentiments that the kgotla was now a dull place lying idle with no activities as it used to be.

“This issue of our kgotla is a wake-up call. According to Monarch Customary Court President, Kgosi Gunny Moses, the burning down of the structure has inconvenienced his people a lot. “We have no place to hold meetings as we sometimes resort to holding meetings under a car parking lot here at the Kgotla,” he explained.

Kgosi Moses further noted that the burning down of his kgotla structure is the likely cause of low meeting attendances as people do not like sitting under intense heat in an open space with no shades for long.” he said. Ends
