Service centre to help residents
27 Aug 2015
Okavango Sub-district Council is worried by the distances Gudigwa clients have to cover to access services in Gumare.
Speaking at the opening of the sub-council meeting , the chairperson Mr Mbahahauka Kambimba expressed hope that the Shakawe service centre would become operational starting January 2016 to cater for clients from distant places.
“We believe this will improve service delivery as our customers will no longer have to travel long distances,’’ he said, adding that the council would work closely with stakeholders to make sure the service centre starts operating.
The council leader noted that the service centre was supposed to start operating in September 2015, but due to unforeseen problems, it would be operational next year as procurement of materials for the construction of offices and fencing was already in progress.
On another note, Cllr Kambimba said they were also worried about the poor school examination results in the district, adding that to curb the problem, they were involving teachers, school heads and all stakeholders to ensure that the results are improved.
With regard to local economic empowerment, he said the district had revived the agricultural show, which was held in July and noted that the Social and Community Development department showcased at least 52 different types of displays from locals and poverty eradication recipients. Ends
