Masisi decries poor supervision

26 Aug 2015

The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi says gross neglect of duty by some civil servants inhibits smooth implementation of policies and programmess geared towards improving the lives of Batswana. Mr Masisi said this during a kgotla meeting he addressed in Polokwe village in Moshupa Sub district on Tuesday August 25.

He said the occurrence, which has spread across the country remains a primary concern to the leadership of the country. “It is disheartening to formulate good policies and programmes only to have officers who are supposed to drive their implementation do the opposite,” he said and attributed the bad practice to poor supervision.

He said government is losing patience on such conduct and called upon supervisors to crack the whip to bring stoppage to the untoward act.

The Vice President, who is also a Member of Parliament for Moshupa/Manyana’s concern followed a complaint by Ms Tuelo Osupeng, a youth in Polokwe who re-counted how the Social and Community Development officials in Moshupa Sub -district have failed to act on her application to be assisted with goats through LIMID since 2010.

This is despite being part of the first batch that underwent poverty eradication training at Dikhukhung then. To date, all attempts to solicit information on the progress of her application did not bear fruits. On other issues, Mr Masisi urged Polokwe to embrace developments in their settlement and allayed any fears that there could be any relocation soon.

“Relax and till your land because even your population falls short to be declared a recognised settlement,” he assured them. His assurance followed fears by some residents who felt developments that have already taken place in Polokwe will culminate in farmers relocating to pave way for further developments.Meanwhile, Southern District Council chairperson, Mr Mephato Reatile informed residents that 5 286 monthly jobs which translate to 63 432 annually are created through Ipelegeng projects across the district.

He said over P33 million is disbursed as payment to people engaged through Ipelegeng. Ends
