Gaetsaloe positive of BDC future

Managing director of Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) says he is confident that his organisation will return to profitability by year 2016 and looks to grow the business portfolio going forward.

Speaking at media pre-launch engagement to highlight the progress made of the iconic Fairscape precinct, Mr Bashi Gaetsaloe said having been with BDC for the past 15 months, he has been on a drive to turn around the fortunes of the corporation and along with his executive team they have already completed year one of their strategic plans.“We have re-structured our executive team and made it smaller and more efficient,” he said.

Speaking on the Fairscape Precinct development, Mr Gaetsaloe said the central aim of the infrastructure development is to create an environment which promotes economic opportunities and it is a standing monument that serves as a daily reminder of the potential and promise of Botswana’s ability to grow and prosper. 

Located in the heart of Fairgrounds, the very noticeable development is unique and   is valued at P400 million and was designed as a unique multipurpose development that raised the bar for office and retail space available at Fairgrounds.

Mr Gaetsaloe further said Batswana need to up their ante when it comes to showcasing the architectural and developmental potential of the country. He said Fairscape is a product of collaboration brought to life through passion, and these are two things central to the way BDC does business.

“This is the labour of thousands of men and women of architects, contractors, labourers and indeed financiers.  Not only is this desirable and indeed attainable business address but it is also a testament to the truly global standard we can drive on our own soil, and a symbol of potential,” he concluded.

For his part, chief operations officer of BDC Mr Bafana Molomo said Fairscape Precinct comprises of 15 floors of A grade offices and penthouses in The Tower as well as two free standing office blocks around a central piazza.

“The piazza is designed to host retail and restaurant spaces that offer a premium lifestyle experience,” he said, adding that such a mixed use concept is the first of its kind in Botswana bringing a harmonious, modern and high class working and living environment into the country.

“The core concept is to integrate the corporate and private culture into one domain, where business meets pleasure,” he added.

He indicated that some of the development will see the Fairscape Precinct get a five star hotel which will add to the already impressive developments.

Mr Molomo indicated that the development boasts a number of environmentally conscious features including but not limited to the reinforcing steel being manufactured from recycled materials, energy efficient mechanical and electrical installation and performance glass to increase the efficiency of the HVAC system.

 

“Those with a penchant of architectural splendor have recognised our development by giving us awards. We have been awarded the Fulton award by the Concrete Society of South Africa in recognition of excellence and innovation in the use of concrete,” he said. Ends
