Sefalana Shoppers opens in Hukuntsi
25 Aug 2015
Travelling long distances by residents of Hukuntsi in search of fresh cheap products will now become a thing of the past as Sefalana Shoppers has opened its doors to the community.
Speaking during Sefalana Shoppers official opening in Hukuntsi, the Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi commended Shoppers for seeing it fit to open their shop in places such as Hukuntsi.
He said even though Kgalagadi North was broad, residents would now reduce travelling long distances to towns such as Jwaneng in search for products of low prices.
Mr Moipisi said the presence of Shoppers was an avenue to lure more investors who would upgrade the economic status of the village.
He noted that the government alone could not manage to create employment for Batswana, and that private companies should come on board and assist.
The MP also commended Sefalana Shoppers for addressing unemployment, noting that 54 Batswana were hired in the new outlet.
He also thanked the owner of Macheng Mall, Mr Tshepo Monnakgotla for constructing structures that provide enough space for accommodating bigger shops.
Mr Moipisi encouraged residents to utilise the mall and provide it with security.
For his part, the board chairperson of Sefalana, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe said Sefalana was embracing a new concept of bringing quality services to clients to reduce the migration of people from rural to urban areas in search of employment and quality services.
Dr Kedikilwenoted that in 1974 when Sefalana opened doors to customers, there were only 233 employees, but that in 2014 the number increased to 2 000.
He said they were not only targeting an increase in Sefalana footprints in the country and across borders, but they want to create job opportunities for Batswana.
He said it was wise and of critical importance for residents not only to think of purchasing, but also on what they could do and sell to Sefalana Shoppers in order to sustain their daily lives and diversify the economy. Ends
