24 Aug 2015

Tonota East Youth Association (TEYA) has given a food hamper to Ms Lebang Baakile, an elderly woman of Goo-Seroto ward in Tonota to join in giving back to the community.

Welcoming guests to the event on Saturday August 22, Seroto ward Kgosi Lesitamang Molebedi, said he thanked God for the gathering and appreciated the youth for recognizing elderly people in their village.

Kgosi Molebedi said their action really showed that young people are the pillars of the nation; as such, he appealed to the rest of the youth to copy from the TEYA and do the same.

He encouraged young people to work with the Village Development Committee (VDC) because it is the mother of all associations at village level.

Councillor Thatayaone Moring of Tonota East requested the traditional leader and VDC to use youths in whatever they are doing.

He explained that youths were unemployed but they saw it fit to be engaged on something worthwhile thereby choosing Ms Baakile and her family as the recipient of their gesture of good will.

Cllr Moring said he supported the youth association because they were doing a great job, adding that they also got support from B&M Garments as the company donated some T-shirts and promised more assistance in future.

The objective of the day, according to the chairperson of the association Ms Onneile Sekwidi, was to recognize and appreciate the presence of elderly people in their village, and for them know that they care about them.

A Tonota youth official Mr Goitseone Gafhiwe said he prided himself with the association as they had a vision; he encouraged the association to showcase their talents by assisting in the village developments and urged them to cooperate so that they will be able to achieve their goals.

The food hamper included, among other things, included mealie meal, samp, and sugar.

When receiving the hamper on behalf of her grandmother, Ms Segametsi Motshebe said she appreciated the hamper and wished the youth association well for a good deed.

The chairperson of the umbrella VDC Mr Mhaladi Mhaladi said he wished that they could continue doing the good work of love which is also a good lesson to others.

Mr Mhaladi stressed that the association should be given a name that they will pride themselves with. ENDS
