Chinese embassy assists women football

24 Aug 2015

Women’s football in Botswana is faced with myriad challenges.  In the last season the league played without a sponsor making it difficult for teams to make ends meet.

However, the Chinese Embassy heeded the call to help in the development of the women’s game by donating a kit worth P90 000 to Botswana Football Association.

Acting Chinese Ambassador, Naan Li said as the Chinese Embassy they have been trying the best they can to consolidate the two countries’ friendship and by donating to women’s football they were helping the country’s noble cause of developing women through sport.

BFA, acting vice president-administration, Suzie Montsho said women football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

Women football, she said has more potential for growth, and the BFA as a guardian of the game must use this opportunity to increase and develop the number of players who have access to the game.

She also said the association wants to improve the quality of women football, to implement player pathways from grassroots to elite.

She said some of the BFA objectives are to encourage the promotion and marketing of women football at all levels in order to grow participation, build the audience and target potential partners and to ensure that every girl and woman who wants to play football has the opportunity. Ends
