Know your HIV status

24 Aug 2015

Knowing one’s HIV status is crucial as it helps one keep track of their health effectively as well as protecting loved ones.

This was said by Mr Thatayaone Mokgatle, a counsellor at Tebelopele Selebi Phikwe, in a one-day HIV/AIDS testing wellness event organised by Occupational Health, Safety, Chaplaincy and Social Welfare (OHSCSW) unit of the Botswana Police Service in Bobonong recently.

For an individual to be productive, one needs to be healthy, he said. Mr Mokgatle said he was impressed by the number of employees who turned up for testing despite it being a half day event.

He added that of the employees who tested, all were well versed on issues of HIV/AIDS which made the day go by without any challenges.

Mr Mokgatle commended Bobonong Police Station for holding the event, saying it helped people to know their status as well as to learn more about other diseases.

He advised people to visit their offices regularly to equip themselves on other services offered by Tebelopele other than testing for HIV.

For her part, Bobonong Police Station Chaplain, Detective Sergeant Portia Molathwa said conducting wellness days on a regular basis helped to emphasise the importance of protecting oneself from various diseases as well as to live a different life upon testing of such diseases.

She said the mandate of OHSCSW was to come up with different calendar dates to host wellness days that would ensure that employees had a balanced spiritual life, social welfare as well as a favourable work environment. Ends
