Boo-Kodisa congratulate Khama

23 Aug 2015

Residents of Goo-Kodisa near Moshupa have congratulated President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama on his new appointment as the chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Residents said this during a kgotla meeting President Khama addressed in the village. On behalf of the residents, Kgosi Moanakwena Keloneilwe of Goo-Kodisa described the appointment as recognition of President Khama’s leadership calibre.

He said they were particularly impressed that SADC heads of State during the just ended 35th summit unanimously saw it fit to pass the baton to President Khama to lead the regional body.  “We are particularly happy that your appointment was not even debated which  points to the democratic processes your government has put in place to bring about the peace and stability we all enjoy,” he said.

Another resident, Mr Bonolo Seokolo thanked President Khama for active government efforts to better the lives of Batswana.

However, he complained that the Citizen Entrepreneurship Development Agency (CEDA) loan requirements were rather too stringent and advised government to make them more accessible to all Batswana.

President Khama was accompanied by Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi and some Cabinet ministers. He further took time off to meet elders where he was treated to oral history of the village.

He was informed by Mr Keboneilwe Molangwana that the village was established by the late Kgosi Bathoen II of Bangwaketse in 1933. Mr Molangwana explained that Kgosi Bathoen had deployed some constituents of Kgakge, Montsho and Molekwane wards from Kanye to set up a camp and watch over the boundary line between Bangwaketse and Bakwena reserves.

Meanwhile, President Khama donated Bibles to local churches, 30 chairs for the kgotla shelter and blankets to the sick, elderly and needy. Ends
