WUC promises to fix leaking pipes
23 Aug 2015
Residents of Sebina in the Tutume Sub-district have accused Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) of slow response to broken water pipes which results in leakages.
In an interview recently, one of the residents stated that the situation was worrisome because water had been leaking from the pipes and that it seemed nothing was being done.
Mr Comrik Chiepe said the situation in Sebina was different because some of the broken pipes had not been attended to for a month.
He said they had lodged complaints with the area councillor, Mr Kemmonye Amon, but that nothing seemed to bear any fruit.
Mr Chiepe further noted that cattle had found refuge at the watering holes created by the broken pipes.
“We really do not know why WUC as a parastatal organisation is failing to meet its customers grievances,” said Mr Chiepe.
Another villager, Mr Arnold Bakhwi shared the same sentiments, stating that since WUC took over from councils, things had gone from bad to worse.
He said they only saw high water bills as pipes continued to spill water on a daily basis, adding that the council water unit was better off.
An official of WUC in the area, Mr David Seporo said that the situation in Sebina was worsened by a blockage of the water pipeline in Makaleng.
He however said they were working on the pipes to bring the situation under control. Ends
