McConnell College in Tutume hosted a career fair for  form four students to equip them with relevant information about different career paths to choose from once they complete their secondary studies.

Speaking during the career fair held at the school recently, the deputy school head Mr Lebogang Setilo advised  students to take advantage of the day to learn more about which career paths they wanted to pursue and which subjects were needed in order to achieve their goals.

He encouraged them to ask relevant questions that will help them choose their career path, noting that this was an opportunity to meet face to face with different organisations and get information about what they could offer.

Mr Setilo stated that they should see this as an investment to their future plans and get as much contacts as possible that would benefit them in the future.

He advised them not to shy away but use their time wisely to get all the answers they wanted, adding that they plan to make this an annual event.

The deputy school head said next time they will do it earlier so that students could choose the right subjects needed for their desired career path.

When addressing the students, Mr Gaolaolwe Phologolo, who is a business advisor from Masunga Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) office, said career fairs were  important to students.

He said they provide them with a chance to explore employers and career opportunities that they may never have thought about, introduce them to realities of career search and a chance to polish their networking skills.

Mr Phologolo noted that at LEA, they believe in assisting small businesses and said that it is never early for one to start being an entrepreneur.

He said not all graduates will be absorbed by government and they should take this opportunity to get relevant information about the business world in case they decided to join other entrepreneurs and create jobs for others.

He said their main mission is to promote and facilitate entrepreneurship and SMME (Small Micro Medium Enterprises) development through targeted interventions in pursuit of economic diversification.

Mr Phologolo said choosing the right subjects also matters a lot when choosing a career, adding that they should feel free to visit their offices to know more about how LEA could assist them.

The Department of Tertiary Education Financing was also available to provide necessary information to students about living allowances and students entitlements while pursuing their tertiary studies. Ends
