19 Aug 2015

Jwana Primary School recently held a price giving ceremony to award students who have performed well in their studies and also to celebrate their victory for scooping position one among the four primary schools in Jwaneng.

Last year’s Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results saw the school obtaining a 92 per cent pass rate.

Speaking at the price giving ceremony the school head Ms Malebogo Gaobepe said for her school to have performed well in the 2014 PSLE, it was through hard work and determination by both the students and teachers.

She added that there was cooperation between the school management and the students. Ms Gaobepe thanked the parents for raising their children well as the students continue to put Jwana on the map.

The chief education officer Mr Abram Mollowamodimo expressed happiness adding that it shows that the parents care about their children’s education. He noted that he is very thankful to the Majwe mining company which sponsored the ceremony with P18 000 and Debswana for their continued support in sponsoring the schools in Jwaneng, thereby making their learning environment more enjoyable and easy.

He said that Jwaneng schools have the potential of being models in the country as the schools perform academically well. Mr Mollowamodimo praised the teachers for their dedication to their work as they continue to produce good results.

He further encouraged the students to work very hard as they no longer compete only with schools in the country but with schools in Africa.

The president of Botswana Teachers Union who was also the guest speaker at the event Mr Johannes Tshukudu expressed his delight adding that the school‘s history shows that the Jwana primary school is a school of high performers.

He said the school ‘s academic brilliance is worth celebrating as it showed that for the last 10 years Jwana have been either in position one or two adding that the spirit of working together and democracy that exist in the school needed to be celebrated. Mr Tshukudu also said that Jwana primary school’s outstanding performance was a clear indication that the school has a running formula that they should share with the whole nation.

Furthermore he thanked the learners, parents, business community, management and teachers for their bold academic track record, adding that schools such as Jwana primary should be turned into schools of academic excellence such that other schools could come and bench mark from them.

He alluded that a lot of schools in Botswana find it extremely hard to achieve Jwana primary‘s academic record.

“There is no way we as a country can produce a competitive human resource if our future citizens were doing badly in their academics. It is therefore paramount that as a nation we must realise our collective efforts to have schools like Jwana which always aims to attain results that can pave a brighter future for the learners” he said.

Former student at Jwana primary School Ms Neo Tabuje said it was an honour for her to have been a student at Jwana primary as the learning environment was conducive and the teachers gave them their support. She encouraged other leaners to work hard to obtain good results. Ends
