In a bid to promote a crime-free society, the Botswana Police Service in Ngamiland District is to embark on an anti-crime awareness campaign starting end of this month.
Senior Superintendent Chabaesele Kesupetswe said the campaign would start with a march and a meeting in Etsha 13 in the Okavango District on 27August.
He said the objective of the campaign was to sensitise communities about the crime situation in their areas and it’s impact. The police chief said crime has penetrated all communities in the district.
Senior Superintendent Kesupetswe said incidents of crime have become the order of the day in his policing area.
“We record an incident of murder, suicide and rape every week. That is worrisome,” he said.He cited an incident that occurred in Shakawe in which a 23-year-old man was found hanging from a tree near Shakawe Senior Secondary School recently.
In another incident, a 26-year-old man is in police custody over the murder of a 20-year-old woman who was found dead at her home in Maun. The senior police officer said such incidents call for action hence the anti-crime awareness campaign. He said he hopes communities would partner with the police to enhance strategies to combat crime in their villages. ENDS
