Focus important tool for success

18 Aug 2015

Students of Ramotswa and Taung junior secondary schools have been informed that the most important tool to success is focus.

A final year student of the University of Botswana, Ms Mandisa Ndlovu, who was a guest speaker at the schools’ career fair in Ramotswa recently, said setting goals helped her overcome obstacles.

Ms Ndlovu said as the breadwinner of her family after her father passed away, when she was in standard five and her mother falling ill soon afterwards, she set goals for herself and worked towards achieving them.

She told the students that she followed her goals to get where she was. She however advised students to compete with themselves by looking at their progress and aspiring to do better than they did before.

Another speaker, Dr Dikabo Mogopodi, who is an analytical chemist from Botswana Institute of Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) advised the students not to dread science subjects.

She said the subject is not easy to learn but it is exciting and needs hard work to be achieved.

Dr Mogopodi gave the students examples about everyday food and objects that they use in order to inspire them to enjoy science.

For his part, the executive director of the South East District Youth Empowerment Association (SEDYEA) and Gabz FM presenter, Mr Kitso Masi encouraged students never to give up on their dreams and to identify their talents.

He said not all are academically gifted and he advised them not to work for money because money does not guarantee happiness fulfillment.

One artiste, Eugene Jackson also known as Mxolisi performed two of his songs as an introduction to his inspirational talk with the students.

He told the students that if they work harder nothing would go wrong in life, emphasising the need for one to have an educational background to pursue their careers including music.

The career fair was organised for form three students to create awareness about available careers in the country and inspire them towards achieving academic excellence.

Present at the career fair were delegates from the Botswana Police Service, ABM University College, Bamalete School of Nursing and Construction Industry Trust Fund and the local polka group You and I. BOPA
