GU struggle against defensive Satmos
17 Aug 2015
Sluggish Gaborone United failed to make a good impression on their own turf when they played to a one all draw with Satmos Football Club in a beMOBILE Premiership league game in Molepolole on Saturday August 15.
Satmos FC surprised the ‘Money Machine’ when their rock solid defence kept at bay all efforts by attackers through counter attacks and high balls into opponent goal area to try to force errors. The first half went to recess goalless.
GU, who held the ball for long periods inside their half, allowed their opponents more time to have a break to knock the ball around, and have time to organise and fend any intrusion from Gaborone United.
Satmos were the first to break the impasse in the 63rd minute through Mogakolodi ‘Sticks’ Balatotswe after a good combination with Kediemetse Radikoko and Thato Ganetsang.
The ‘Money Machine’ were however six minutes later rewarded with an equaliser after the defence failed to clear their area on time scoring an own goal in the process and the goal was credited to Kgololo Kgogobi who was the last person to contact the ball.
Though it’s too early to pass any judgement, GU needs to be ruthless in the opening games to keep confidence by collecting maximum points.
The result has not set well with supporters who are still not happy with luck of firepower upfront by Mathews Nyamadzayo after the conspicuous release of Joseph Chikomo and Tebogo Sembowa who have started well in their new homes.
Satmos who last year were on the verge of plying their trade in first division, and saved by the play-offs win against Notwane put up a good fight to collect a valuable away point to gain confidence in their next encounters. ENDS
