President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama says as the global economy improves and the world recession abates, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) led government is looking forward to improve the livelihoods of people.
President Khama said this when addressing political rallies in various villages across the Good Hope–Mabule constituency on Thursday August 13. President Khama said the BDP led government aims to eradicate abject poverty among citizens.
He said cabinet has worked tirelessly to fight abject poverty.High in his agenda before the next general elections,President Khama said, was to work towards reducing unemployment that has especially affected the youth.
He said Batswana have continued to enjoy peace and tranquility over the years through processes that the BDP has put in place. The latest world indexes, he said, rated Botswana as the 31st country among 162 countries that enjoy peace and security, adding that it was the top in all African countries.
“It is only through the BDP led government that Batswana are enjoying this peace and tranquility,” he said. President Khama said it was amazing that in the past general elections, the BDP won eight council wards out of the nine that are in the constituency, yet the BDP MP candidate lost the elections.
“The opposition is not a problem, but the problem is the BDP membership that votes for opposition party candidates,” he said. He added that it was a grave mistake that the BDP did by voting for a member of the opposition. He urged voters to correct the mistake in the coming bye–elections.
President Khama said opposition parties did not deserve Barolong votes as voting for them would be a waste of votes, as they would not have much of a voice as they would be back benchers in Parliament.
President Khama praised the BDP parliamentary candidate, Mr Eric Molale, saying he was an asset to the country and likened him to a diamond which was valuable to the development of the country.
He said as the party in power, it was critical for Mr Molale to win the elections to contribute to the BDP developmental agenda. “Molale has experience and knowledge in governance and Barolong are very lucky to have a person of his caliber willing to representthem in Parliament.
The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr KitsoMokaila said the Morolong area needed developments and that Mr Molale was the right candidate to spearhead the development of the constituency.
For his part, Mr Molale said he was looking forward to be an elected Member of Parliament for the constituency. He said winning the constituency would ensure the fast tracking of developments.
He promised to work with all people regardless of their political affiliation. Mr Molale said the BDP has a visionary leadership that intends to improve the lives of the people, adding that he was offering himself as a vessel to be used to fast track the development of the constituency.
He said he was rightly placed to be the constituency MP as he would work closely with President Khama to bring developments to the constituency. Mr Molale said he was willing to take Botswana forward through the initiatives and programmes that government has put in place.
He said politics was not about money, but representing people in Parliament with diligence. ENDS
