Chairperson calls for market

13 Aug 2015

Hukuntsi Sub-district chairperson, Ms Goratwamang Tlhage has encouraged small scale entrepreneurs to establish reputable and lucrative markets for their products.

Officiating during the southern region district cluster show in Hukuntsi recently, Ms Tlhage said that it was important for small scale producers to identify projects, which could best suit market demands and maximise on high product demands.

She said the government had over the years invested on uplifting the livelihoods of its citizenry by initiating projects geared towards improving communities hence the need for the business communities to fully utilise the projects.

Ms Tlhage encouraged exhibitors to have a marketing strategy that would give their businesses exposure. She said it was vital for small entrepreneurs to develop marketing strategies as their efforts to attract customers were likely to be haphazard and inefficient.

“The focus of your strategy should be making sure that your products and services meet customer needs and developing long-term and profitable relationships with those customers. To achieve this, you will need to create a flexible strategy that can respond to changes in customer perceptions and demand. It may also help you identify whole new markets that you can successfully target,” she said.

The purpose of the marketing strategy, she said, should be to identify and communicate the benefits that the business offers to the target market. Ms Tlhage called on small entrepreneurs in the southern region to use their proximity to the urban areas to their advantages.

“The fact that the district is distant from urban areas should benefit your businesses since there will be less completion from well-established urban suppliers,” she noted.

She said the government was progressing well in eradicating abject poverty through comprehensive social protection programmes such as the destitution programme, which enabled people to have food and live dignified lives.

She challenged Batswana to also meet the government half way through developing the spirit of industrialisation by establishing production sites that would create jobs and contribute to the country’s economy. ENDS
