Seek help from trained professionals - medic

Dr Philip Isete of Covenant Medical Centre in Shakawe has advised the village to be duly informed about health matters to avoid complications that often result from ignorance.
In an interview recently, Dr Isete said people should consult doctors, nurses and counsellors to get medical help when they have health problems.
He advised patients against seeking medical help from traditional doctors, arguing that their intervention sometimes worsen the situation.
He contended that traditional doctors do not know as much about the body and its functions as professional medical doctors. He cautioned that some medicines that traditional doctors give patients could destroy the body’s inner parts. He cited incidents where some patients lost water and blood after using traditional medicine.
“Traditional doctors do incisions, and most medicines applied have toxic chemicals, which destroy other important parts of the body,” he said.
He noted that most medications and kits used by traditional doctors are contaminated and therefore constitute a health hazard. Dr Isete also advised traditional doctors to collaborate with medical doctors and hold joint workshops to learn more about human health to safeguard the community’s health together.
He also urged people to visit medical centres for diagnoses, solutions as well as recommendations. ENDS
