Organisations donate to charity fund

The President’s Charitable Fund has raised millions for charitable organisations, donated thousands of blankets, chairs and sporting equipment to different communities throughout the country, says Brigadier George Tlhalerwa.

Speaking at a handing over ceremony on Wednesday, August 12, Brig. Tlhalerwa said since its inception in 2009, the charitable fund has raised close to P7 million which has benefited charitable organisations across the country.

Yesterday, the Chinese Embassy, Old Apostolic Church and Industrial Management and Accounting Services donated money, blankets, solar lights and wheel chairs to the charitable fund.

The church and accounting company donated 100 blankets each, while the Chinese Embassy donated P75 000, 200 blankets, 200 solar lights and five wheel chairs.

Brig. Tlhalerwa, who is the Senior Private Secretary to the President, said over 10 000 blankets have been given to the needy through the charitable fund. He added that the President’s Charitable Fund wants to improve the lives of Batswana, and that it has connected water to over 75 households in different villages.

Furthermore, he said over 1 800 chairs were donated to all leaderships in various dikgotla across the country while 8 000 chairs were offered to different dikgotla’s for the elderly to use.
In support of local sport, he said the charitable fund has donated sporting equipment to over 75 teams in the country.

As for the agricultural sector, he said the fund has donated ploughing implements to over 250 farmers

Brig. Tlhalerwa expressed delight when receiving the goods, saying the Office of the President was encouraged to see churches now coming on board in terms of donating for charity.

Meanwhile, the acting Ambassador of China to Botswana, Mr Li Nan said for the past 40 years, the bilateral relations between Botswana and China had been growing smoothly,  and that the embassy would continue to support initiatives such as the President’s Charitable Fund. ENDS
