Thapong hosts two-week exhibition

11 Apr 2013

Art fanatics should visit the Thapong Visual Art Centre in Gaborone to witness and appreciate high standard art works displayed by members of the centre.

Thapong is currently hosting a two-week members' exhibition meant for them to share and exchange ideas and also provide a platform for networking.

The exhibition was also meant to expose members’ works to the public for their support in terms of purchasing these products. Artists have displayed their pieces of work ranging from drawings, paintings and sculpture, among others.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Thapong coordinator, Reginald Bakwena said such exhibitions also prepared artists for the Thapong Artist of the Year Award which comes at the end of year.

Bakwena said no one would judge other people’s artwork during the two week exhibition, rather they were going to advice and critique accordingly.

However, he advised artists to consider professional standards and take their work seriously as customers preferred high quality products.

He also advised artists to be careful when pricing their work, noting that it was not good to over price substandard products.

Meanwhile, one Ntungwa Mogomotsi expressed delight over the exhibition noting that he would have a chance to market himself.

He is displaying a portrait drawing themed:The eye of an adult, which he produced four days before the exhibition. ENDS
