Forgiveness key to healthy mind

11 Aug 2015

Mind Power Business Solution consultant, Dr Samora Gaborone, has advised members of the public to forgive others so as to have a healthy mind.

Dr Gaborone, who is also a lecturer at the University of Botswana, was speaking during a wellness day organised by the Orapa Tribal Administration.

“As individuals, we must learn to forgive ourselves, others and circumstances because when a person forgives, he or she lets go of what happened to him or her,” he said.

He advised the gathering to never suppress emotions as it could lead to mental sickness. He urged them to eat three meals a day and to reduce their daily intake of salt, sugar and oil. He advised that regular exercise was key to a healthy body. He said that they should drink lots of water, and eat fruits, vegetables and foods that have bran such as kabu to avoid constipation.

For his part, Debswana Wellness Officer Mr Andrew Inambao said depression mostly affects women due to the fact that they have more social responsibilities as they take care of the household, children, the husband while keeping full time jobs in many cases.

He said that depression may be caused by rejection by a boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse or death of a loved one.

Mr Inambao said depression can be identified by extreme anger, withdrawal symptoms, loss of appetite or eating more than usual in women. He advised that people should be concerned when their colleagues, friends or family members show unusual behaviour.

He advised them not to gossip about such afflicted individuals. He warned that a depressed individual can commit suicide or become mentally disturbed.

The event was attended by the Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS), the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF) and Tebelopele Testing Centre, among others. It was themed My Health My Key to Performance.

Ironman Fitness Centre kicked off the day with a gymnastics lesson. Participants also got a chance to test for HIV, donate blood and get a free counselling session by Dr Gaborone. ENDS
