DHMT allocated funds for uniforms
10 Aug 2015
Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele says the ministry is not aware that most nurses working in health facilities were without uniform.
Dr Madigele, however, said the ministry was aware that some facilities encountered stock outs of protective clothing which included among others, gowns, cloaks, boots and aprons.
He said the ministry was facing challenges of procuring uniform and other protective clothing of standard quality and amount to meet nurses’ needs.
He added that District Health Management Teams (DHMT) were allocated funds at the beginning of the financial year to procure uniform and protective clothing for nurses.
Furthermore, the assistant minister noted that the ministry was working on a framework contract that would facilitate prompt procurement of uniforms and protective clothing by reducing long tender processing periods.
Ramotswa MP, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the minister if he was aware that most nurses performed their daily duties without uniform or protective clothing. ENDS
