Kgalagadi North has five combi permits

10 Aug 2015

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo has told Parliament that the number of passenger transport permits issued to mini buses on the Kgalagadi North is five, and they run between Lehututu, Hukuntsi, Kang and Lokgwabe.

Mr Mabeo stated that all issued permits were in use and they were adequately servicing the people in their respective areas. He said the area is also being serviced by other routes which were Gaborone- Hukuntsi, Jwaneng- Hukuntsi and Gaborone- Ghanzi.

The minister stated that he was not aware that there were difficulties in acquiring such permits, because if the applicant had submitted all the required documentation, it takes two months to process the application on average. He further noted that where there was acute demand, they issue a temporary permit whilst awaiting completion of the permit application process.

The MP for Kgalagadi North, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi had asked the minister to state the number of passenger transport permits issued to combis in the Kgalagadi North.

He also asked if all the issued permits were currently in use, and servicing the people adequately in their respective routes. He further wanted to know why there were difficulties in acquiring such permits by prospective combi owners with the desire to start transport business. ENDS
