Molefhi praises retired nurses

10 Aug 2015

The Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Nonofo Molefhi says the selfless efforts of retired nurses should not be overlooked.

Mr Molefhi was the chief walker on Saturday August 8 at the Botswana Retired Nurses Society (BORNUS) sponsored walk.

He said retired nurses have continued to render their services by helping the needy and vulnerable members of society.

Mr Molefhi added that retired nurses continued to offer their services despite living in a society where people were preoccupied with their own businesses and cared less for the needy.

He said the tendency to look for rewards has created shortfalls  because the disadvantaged remained behind.

He further added that retired nurses have proved that despite their retirement, they still have a role to play in society and further commended those who took part in the walk.

“They have given what they have and what they have given is sufficient,” he said.

He added that they would continue to support BORNUS and encouraged them not to despair even though situations may look unfavourable.

The BORNUS director, Ms Mavis Kewakae said raising funds has become more difficult due to the economic downturn.

Ms Kewakwe said money raised from the walk would be used for the completion of a house which was has been under construction since 2011.

She said it was difficult to complete the double story house due to insufficient funds, and thus encouraged people to assist.

“Why must you let a person suffer when you have something to offer?” asked Ms Kewakae.

On the other hand, BORNUS board member, Mr Oaitse Ramasedi said they needed retired professionals to assist with the centre which houses 50 pre-school pupils because the current board had a shortfall of members and that people were not volunteering. ENDS
