Roads department donate

10 Aug 2015

Roads department employees from across the country have donated 160 garden chairs worth P9 000 to Kgomotso counselling center in Tsabong on Thursday.

Speaking on behalf of the employees, Senior Manager in the Roads Department, Ms Nkabo Kefhilwe said they saw it fitting to align themselves with one of the Vision 2016 values of being a compassionate and caring nation.

She said they have adopted one of the 4 D’s that President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama uses as his road map that stresses that each and every citizen should have dignity hence their donation.

She urged the staff at the center which hosts around 160 children to use the donation for intended purpose.

Ms Kefhilwe said the donation was made possible by the determination of Roads Department staff who contributed from their own pockets to see the project through.

Earlier on, when giving welcome remarks, chairman of Kgomotso Counselling Center, Mr Andries Burger revealed that the center was built through voluntarism and has brought happiness into the lives of the public and children.

He however pointed out that it was not easy finishing the construction of the center because they did not have support.

He called on the public to give them support, saying the center is for everyone and as such needs to be expanded to house more children as they continue to experience influx of clients daily.

“The centre is housing leaders of tomorrow hence our plea to help us so that we can help them,” he said.

The center offers amongst others, marriage counseling, and pyscho social support for people living with HIV/AIDS and youth programmes.

The area councillor, Mr Nelson Motsewapuo applauded the Roads Department employees for their gracious efforts of contributing meaningfully to the community.

He said in the past, there was no such thing where employees would use their hard earned cash for the benefit of the community and urged them to extend their helping hand to other quarters of the community. ENDS
