Khama decorates police officers

President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama on Friday (August 7) awarded medals to members of the Botswana Police Service (BPS) prior to BPS 131st anniversary celebration, which took place in Lobatse on August 8.. 

The medals were awarded as a way of recognising and thanking eligible members of the BPS for outstanding services and good conduct in police duties. 

Among the categories of the awards, the President decorated members of BPS with Long Service and Good Conduct medals for those who served 18 years and Botswana Police Jubilee Service medals to those who served at least 25 years in the BPS and had shown by their conduct  that they were worthy of the honour.

Senior assistant commissioners Pilane Sebigi and Arthur Johnson were awarded the Meritorious Service medal for serving 12 years and having set a high example by their conduct and diligence. 

During the ceremony, 128 officers who had distinguished themselves by their devotion to duty and served for 30 years received the Distinguished Service Order medals and among them were two constables. The President also bestowed 150 medals for Jubilee Service on nine  constables.

He further awarded the medals for Conspicuous Bravery to two police officers, Sergeant Phalanyane Kenosi and the late Constable Focus Isaiah who died in the course of duty and exhibited conspicuous bravery. 

Constable Isaiah died from bullets wounds he sustained during the Kanye cash loan robbery incident 

Also in attendance to witness the honouring of the officers was Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, Cabinet  ministers and  members of the diplomatic corps as well as Commissioner of Botswana Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe . Ends
