Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila is in Santiago, Chile, at the invitation of that country's minister of mining, Aurora Bause.

A press release from the ministry stated that the visit was meant to achieve the exchange of information on the running and governance structures of a state mining company of Chile, being CODELCO with a view to get assistance in the running of Minerals Development Company Botswana, a newly established wholly government owned company responsible for managing government investments in the mineral sector.

Minister Mokaila would also engage with the Minister of Energy in Chile on their renewable energy programme and advance discussions on areas of cooperation with the Chilean government.

While in Chile, the minister will officially open the Botswana Investment Seminar, hosted by Botswana Investment and Trade Centre on August 12. 

Minister Mokaila is expected back home on August 14. Ends
