Francistown City Mayor, Sylvia Muzila has encouraged the girl child to use sports as a source of employment.

Speaking at Francistown Football Association (FRAFA)’s women football awards at Civic Centre in Francistown recently, Muzila said that she witnessed such achievements in the country, adding that sports activities can bring economic opportunities to Francistown city.

Muzila noted that women in sports are important hence they find it suitable today to recognise clubs such as Francistown United.

She informed them that soccer is just a simple game, but more than just a game, adding that it is full of life lessons and it can teach failure, joy, disappointment, excitement, winning and losing.

The mayor emphasised that discipline is the key to success in sports and urged them to refrain from using performance enhancing substances in sports because they could destroy their talents an even break their life apart.

In his welcoming remarks, Francistown United Football Club (FUFC) chairperson, Desmond Jenamo said they came to make people shift from treating women as minors in sports.

He said the purpose of the day was to mark the success of the FUFC affectionally known as Dlala diskie mantobazana under the theme: Recognition, Tolerance and Promotion of Women in Sports.

Jenamo said the event came as an initiative by the club managers with an intention of encouraging the players.

He thanked the Botswana Football Association for providing them with a league and a rotating trophy plus the gold medals for obtaining first position in the region, emotionally, socially and even economically.

One of the players’ representatives, Chadiwa Malau thanked the management of FUFC for having seen it fit to organise the event to reward them. Ends
