Officer warns students against drug peddling

05 Aug 2015

Students and teachers alike listened in disbelieve when Sub-Inspector Keotshwaretse Molatlhegi of Sejelo police station told of the harrowing incidents where some entrenched criminal syndicates used unsuspecting students to peddle drugs.

She was speaking during Seepapitso class of 1997 motivational talk with Seepapitso Senior Secondary School students on August 4.

Sub-inspector Molatlhegi said in many instances, drug peddlers approached unsuspecting students especially girls under-guise that they loved them while in actual fact they wanted to use them as vehicles in the drug business.

“They take advantage of your innocence and lure you guys with an assortment of gifts including accommodation in posh hotels across the country,” she said adding that besides being used to push drugs, such students developed dependency on drugs and got hooked on such vices in the process.

She, therefore, urged students to stay away from such drugs because other than endangering their lives, such drugs were unlawful and might earn them jail time.

Ms Lebogang Kgokgonyane, a nurse at Sbrana and part of Seepapitso Class of 1997 asked students to desist from wrong crowds and commended government’s efforts against alcohol and drug abuse.

She also pleaded with students to support and be accommodative of each other’s weak points.

Another Seepapitso Class of 1997 student, Mr Masego Rebakgosi who is a teacher at Swaneng Hill School told students to press on in life in spite of the challenges.

Challenges, he said, were necessary and could mold them to be better future leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the school head, Mr Andre Tsae, a physics education teacher saod, “our school like many others across the country has been marred by vices such as alcohol and drug abuse. We have had some of our former students incarcerated due to alcohol related cases,” he said.

He remained hopeful that the messages presented fell on fertile grounds and will bear positive results. Ends
