Give women responsibility

05 Aug 2015

Saint Apostolic Church of Botswana leadership has been advised not to segregate against women, but bestow upon those deserving some positions of responsibility within the church.

Speaking during the official opening of the annual conference where the church membership was expected to introspect and exercise forgiveness, organization of African Instituted Churches OAIC), Botswana Chapeter  Mr Tebogo Motlhagodi said time was ripe for women to  assume positions of archbishop.

In his remarks, the OAIC president said some unfit men led various branches by the virtue of being males. He also advised that aged leaders paved way for fresh and energetic young blood to move the church forward.

To have one of the oldest churches grow beyond its current 18 circuits, Mr Motlhagodi called on the leadership to guard against infighting within the branches. He warned that opening of new circuits should be the prerogative of church leaders, not a result of internal wrangling.

“The only wrestling match allowed in church is only against the devil because infighting amongst members will only lead to internal strife within the place of worship,” said Mr Motlhagodi.

Mr Motlhagodi, who is a member of FGAC, appealed to members to let the church belong to all the people not to appear as an inheritance to a certain group or families.

As if in a mood to lecture to the general membership, the OAIC president called for accountability and responsibility against poor administration in some churches.

He also warned about the power of a tongue arguing that it has the ability to make or break the organization. As a result, Mr Motlhagodi discouraged belittling other members and called all to keep abreast with changes.

Established in 1949 by amongst others reverend Samuel Phakedi, the church held its annual conference in Serowe under the theme ‘forgiveness.’ Ends
