The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen, says in the past five years, 302 people died from HIV/AIDS, 69 from tuberculosis, 30 from diarrhea, 18 from cancer and nine from malaria in the Okavango Sub-district.

Answering a question on behalf of the Minister of Health, Mr Van Der Westhuizen said there had been no reported death directly from malaria. He said malnutrition was considered as underlying cause of mortality. He pointed out that, whenever death was reported in association with malnutrition, it was attributable to the primary cause.

Okavango MP, Mr Bagalatia Arone had wanted the minister to state the number of people who died from HIV/AIDS, TB, cancer, malaria, diarrhea and malnutrition in the past five years in Okavango. Ends
